Root Canal Treatment

Have you heard about new stress-free root canal treatment? At Skyview Dental, we use modern technology, powerful anesthetics, and sedation dentistry that make root canals easier and more efficient than ever!

It is crucial to understand the facts about root canals and forget the myths and stories you've heard. The main thing to know is that root canal treatment is the only procedure available to relieve the pain of an infected or abscessed tooth and save it from extraction.

Why Root Canal Treatment Is Necessary

Teeth are composed of three layers: enamel, the hard outer layer, a softer layer called dentin, and dental pulp located at the center of the tooth. The pulp consists of tissue, nerves, and blood vessels that keep a tooth healthy and alive.

The pulp area of the tooth is well protected from bacteria; however, a deep cavity, crack in the tooth, or dental trauma can allow bacteria to enter the area and cause an infection.

The only way to treat infected pulp is to remove it with root canal therapy provided at our Moses Lake, WA dental office.

Signs You Might Need Root Canal Treatment

The most well-known and discussed symptom of a root infection is excruciating tooth pain that keeps getting worse. Other root canal symptoms to watch for are:

  • Jaw pain and swelling
  • Red, puffy, or swollen gums
  • Extreme tooth sensitivity
  • A "pimple" or bump on the gums
  • An awful taste or odor in the mouth

If you experience any of these symptoms, please call our Moses Lake dental office as soon as possible. If you wait too long, we may not be able to save the tooth with a root canal, and our only option would be to remove the tooth.

What Happens during Root Canal Treatment?

Before we start treatment, we numb the tooth and give it a few minutes to work to ensure that you don't feel anything. We also offer nitrous oxide or laughing gas to help you relax and drift comfortably through your appointment.

Advanced Technology for Increased Comfort

The next step is to remove the infected pulp, which used to be a time-consuming process; at our Moses Lake dental office, we use leading-edge rotary endodontics instead. This technology does away with uncomfortable sensations associated with manual instruments and efficiently removes the infected pulp, so you spend less time in the dental chair.

When the pulp is removed, our root canal dentist fills the space with a biocompatible material that helps prevent reinfection. We then seal the tooth and place a temporary filling on it to protect it as it heals.

Placing Your Final Crown or Filling

In many cases, we can complete the final crown during the same appointment as your root canal using CEREC technology that allows us to design, fabricate, and place your new crown in one visit. However, in some cases, the tooth needs to heal for two weeks before we place the crown.
