With it comes the temptation to in all the sugary treats that come with the spooky season. Unfortunately, too much sugar can harm your dental health. However, no need to avoid your favorite treat completely. We wanted to share tips on how to protect your teeth during Halloween festivities: 

1. Choose Your Candy Wisely 

If you're looking for a sweet treat that's tooth-friendly, choose chocolate. Sticky candies like taffy or gummy bears linger on your teeth. Chocolate rinses away easily. Plus, dark chocolate even contains nutrients that benefit your dental health. 

If you can't resist chewy candies, like ones with caramel, try opting for those that include nuts and chocolate. This combination can be easier to rinse away, helping you maintain a healthier smile. Plus, the nuts give you a protein that makes you more full. So, you are less likely to overindulge.

2. Timing is Everything

The last thing you want to do to your smile is consume candy all day long. Doing so can expose your teeth to sugar for a prolonged period. It can lead to cavities and other issues, because the sugar blends in with the bacteria in your mouth. 

So, instead, treat it like a dessert to be enjoyed after a meal. This will help to minimize the risk of dental problems, plus you won’t consume as much. As a result, you can still enjoy your favorite treats without harming your smile.

3. Rinse or Brush After Eating Candy

As a result, you  strengthen your oral health. Plus, water can cut down on your sugar cravings. Therefore, it is important to sip plenty of water during and after consuming treats.
